My littles had their first real sleepover this weekend. We have had plenty of over night friends, but have always put them in the guest room. This weekend we had our 5 year old niece share the room with Roo and the Felon and they had a blast. Cousins really are the first best friends and I'm so thankful some of ours live close and are the same age as my littles. I'm also thankful for the fabulous babysitter we have who go them all asleep before we returned from dinner.
A place where I share my adventures of love, children, design and fashion from the North and South fork of Long Island NY (and beyond).

Sunday Best: Cousin Edition
I'm a day late posting my Sunday Best this week because, well, yesterday was the best. One of my best friends is my sister in law who lives in Manhattan, which seemed super close to the Hamptons until we both had our second littles. Life started getting in the way of our get togethers and we don't see each other nearly enough. We babymooned in Hawaii together when pregnant with our first babies, took a cruise together to the Bahamas when our second littles were a year old and now I have my third and hers is coming this fall. Adventuring with littles is always more fun when you have family to share it with. This weekend we took my new monster truck on its first big excursion to Montauk. Our babies filled the seats while Leah took the trunk and I the "penalty box" between captain seats. The sun was shining and the salty air was just cool enough to keep us from sweating while schlepping the clan around. We climbed the big rocks at "The End", took in the sights of the lighthouse, and enjoyed the fancy new park before heading to the seal haulout. The trail is a beautiful hike on Montauk Hwy, about one mile west of the lighthouse. Turn down Camp Hero Road and park, then walk about 100 yards to the trailhead on the North side of the highway. There will be signs from there to direct you to the seal haulout or the money pond. The trail is about a mile long and relatively flat until you get to the beach where it's a tiny bit hilly. When you get to the bluff over the ocean, there is a little shelter with information on the seals which will be laying on the rocks below you. I have no idea how long the seals will be hanging out there, but I recommend going now before the "citidiots" get there ( no offense Leah). I recommend bringing binoculars to get a close up view because you have to keep half a football field of distance between you and the seals. Also bring water! After carrying two of the littles back from the beach, we had worked up an appetite, so we headed to the Salt Box in town. My brother in law ordered the Southhampton ale and I got the Montauk ale to cool off and hang loose after a rigourous few hours exercise. The salty fries and fish tacos were delicious and the decor was pretty fantastic. We ended our trip with bags of candy to enjoy on the ride home. Montauk in the off season is where it's at.

Just Keep Swimming
Having three littles has taught me patience. Maybe more than patience it has taught me to how to tune out the bad and focus on the positive. Most of the drama, the tantrums, and the loud cries for attention are background noise to me. They don't faze me in the least. I remember being at the OBGYN for a check up when I was pregnant with Roo and the Felon was throwing a fit on the floor while the doctor was taking my blood pressure. He looked at me and said that my blood pressure was perfect and that he knew I was ready for the new baby because I was handling the stress well. It might go back to being a tennis player and having 20 seconds in between points to compose myself and bring my heart rate back down before the next point. That is my secret if anyone was wondering how you manage with three little people all day long by yourself. You let the little things go and know that it will pass. It's not embarrassing. They are learning to express themselves and it can be almost comical a lot of the time. Believe me, if they take it to a disrespectful level or are at risk of hurting themselves or others, I'm on it. But it isn't that intense or serious the majority of the time. Everything is never going to be picture perfect every minute of the day, but when it is, I capture it and treasure it.
