I am the queen of last minute vacations. Really, really GREAT last minute vacations. I have three favorite stores (Bean2tween, Roberta Roller Rabbit and Lilly Pulitzer) who have amazing after the season sales on resort wear and I buy in advance for moments just like this. Our outfits are always ready and so am I! The Alaskan Assassin likes to pretend that he doesn't know when his days off of work are and then springs on me last minute that there is a 4 day weekend coming up. Before the words could come out of his mouth, I had found $190 round trip tickets to Miami. The Florida Keys has always been on my list of places to explore and this was my chance. My favorite travel site, which I don't feel like sharing just yet, recommended a family resort called Hawks Cay in Duck Key, FL and it sounded dreamy. Dollar rental cars had a $20 a day deal on fully stocked vans and we were all ready for our adventure. A quick 2.5 hour flight and scenic 1.5 hour car ride later and we were in Heaven. Highway 1 was an experience in its own. There was so much for all the "Pukers" to see! "Pukers" is what The Alaskan Assassin's family calls tourists because growing up in Alaska the visitors would get off the buses or boats and puke on the side of the road. I love it, so its my word now too. We stopped at cheap tourist stores and got pool toys and silly shirts and ate lunch at a fun tiki bar on the water. And oh the water there... so many variations of crystal blue. It felt like Hawaii, but without the long flight. Each little key is connected by long bridges over the sea. I think I like Highway 1 more than the PCH. The tropical birds you see over head is amazing as well. I need to go unpack 5 days of resort wear for 5 different people, so TO BE CONTINUED...
