This is my last post about Hawks Cay and I'll move on to Key West tomorrow. I know a lot of you reading this have young children and are looking to find family friendly resorts. Quite a few of you have reached out to me since I posted about our trip and I encourage everyone to ask your questions on here so everyone sees them and I can get back to you faster. If you are thinking that a trip with your littles is not really a vacation because of all the hard work, I totally disagree. Here is how you can make this work for everyone:
.) Ask for a villa backed up to the sunset pool. If you get a villa you have a kitchen, dining room, TV room with pull out sofa, and upstairs with bedrooms. We got a 2 bedroom villa and both rooms had a TV and bathroom. There was also a TV and bathroom downstairs. The balcony off of the upstairs room was huge and stunning. The Alaskan Assassin and I enjoyed our kid free time at night out there overlooking the pool and sea. The bottom floor had a deck with a table and we could go directly from there to the sunset pool. Shay Shay takes a 10:00-1:00 nap daily. I was able to put her down and leave the screened-in door open while I laid right in front of our villa at the pool. This pool had no one in it all day for some reason, so it felt like our own little personal oasis. Another plus to the villa is a washer and dryer! I cleaned all of their clothes before we left so I saved myself time when we returned :)
.) The only slight hiccup to our stay was the pack and play. I emailed and called before the trip to make sure they had one for Shay Shay. We checked in early and they said they would send one to the room. Before dinner I asked the front desk to please send one asap and they said they would. She demands a 6:30 bedtime and at 6:00 it still wasn't there. I called again and they said they were all out... I freaked out because all of our littles only sleep well in their own space. I refused to take that as an answer and stayed on hold with the manager for 20 minutes and miraculously one showed up to the door right before 6:30. So if you need a pack and play for a baby, stay vigilant...
.) Use the kids camp or babysitters if you need a break. One day at Coral Cay I chatted with a young woman who lives in Marathon, FL and can be paid for the day to come out and watch your kids. I love this family time, so we didn't use that. But if you need it, it is there.
.) There are trams and golf carts that can take you around to your villas if the littles don't want to walk anymore. Always a plus.
.) Take advantage of the court time included in the stay. The tennis courts were beautiful!
.) Grab a calendar of events each day and plan around that. So much to do and see. Enjoy! This trip was one of the best of ALL of our lives. Save some money and make the time. We will never forget this time in their lives and this special place where we found paradise.
