Easter Tablescaping the Hamptons Way

Cooking is not my speciality. I try, but the thought of standing around stirring something for a half hour and watching an oven for 45 minutes, and chopping vegetables forever doesn't sound like a good time. Especially when the prepping and cooking takes an hour, the eating 15 minutes and the clean up 8 days and 7 nights. What I do really enjoy is setting a table! Blue Spode was the China "we" picked for our wedding and I just adore it. I love it so much that I designed a special rack for our carpenter to make that I have hung in our breakfast room, just to display it. It's my favorite room in the house. It isn't fancy like a dining room would be. It's homey and sweet and overlooks the backyard and the bay.  The breakfast room gets a lot of sunshine and warmth and is just a happy place to be.  I love adding Roberta Roller Rabbit table clothes and napkins and tchotchkes.  The Saturday before Easter we made a feast for our "framily." That included me meal planning and grocery shopping, The Alaskan Assassin cooking most of the food and me tablescaping.  I put tulips in the white pitcher I have, the kitchen window flowers, and a few Easter lilies from our garden and placed them in the center. Then I added the vintage Peter Rabbit cookie jar, my grandma gave me, for some holiday spirit. The adults got Blue Spode and the littles Peter Rabbit for Pottery Barn plates. On the littles plates I added Roberta Roller Rabbit Eggs filled with chocolates. The final touch was the napkins folded into bunny ears.

The Greenport Egg Roll 2016

After a weekend full of friends, family and tons of fun, I'm happy for this rainy day. There is no school to rush to, no egg hunts to attend, no meals to prep, and no tablescapes to design. Today is about wearing sweatpants, taking naps, playing with Easter toys and eating leftovers. Time to recoup and reminisce about what a great weekend we just had. I think I'll take a few days to reflect and share pictures from all of the festivities, starting with our epic egg hunt in Greenport. We woke up Saturday and took a scenic drive up the North Fork until almost the end of the Island. The vineyards and farms were beginning their spring clean up and the country road was open and desolate.  When we reached the old fishing town we checked into the egg hunt, in front the carousel, on the water. They gave each little a wristband for free carousel rides and Easter cookies and sent us across the street to the Blue Duck Bakery for treats and hot chocolate. There was a man playing his guitar and singing on the porch and it echoed through the small town. Roo and the Felon filled their baskets with eggs while the Bae Bae was happy with her one egg find, per usual. We took a ride on the carousel and then opened our eggs on the lawn while watching the tug boats head out to sea. Afterwards, we took a quick stroll to my favorite Mom and Pop shop down the street and peeked inside the old kindergarten schoolhouse from 1818.  We then grabbed some paninis, on homemade bread, from the Blue Duck Bakery to thank them for making all the littles so happy and headed home for naps.

Sunday Best: Easter Edition 2016

Happy Easter 2016!!! The sun is shining over the ocean in the Hamptons and the tulips, daffadils, and Easter lilies are in full bloom. If that isn't enough to make you smile and celebrate what a gift this life we were given is, then check out the smiles below. The Bae Bae really outdid herself with ridiculous smiles this morning. At first I was thinking that she seriously needed to tone down the crazy face, but then I went back and looked at the pictures later and died laughing. These three littles give us so much joy. Easter is a time of rebirth, new life, resurrection, the triumph of good over evil and God’s love being fully manifested. We celebrated at church this morning after a "Cinnabunny" and eggs breakfast, an egg hunt and Easter basket gift time. Watching the hope, joy and excitement of this season in my littles reminds me of how we all should be living each day. Be grateful for this day. This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24
