Preschool Mother's Day Tea 2016

Today was the Mother's Day Tea at our preschool. For weeks I've been tantalized with hints of flowers and cards and special surprises coming my way from the littles.  We picked out special outfits to wear this morning and they posed in front of the beautiful flowering trees on the way into school to remember today. Roo's class was first and I was greeted with a running hug and butterfly kisses. She sat on my lap and drew a picture of me and the rest of our family. We worked together glueing jewels on her art project and  we snacked and snuggled together the whole time. Next up was the Felon's class. He sat down next to his best buddy and hardly acknowledged my presence. He and his buddy thought it would be funny to "scribble scrabble" a Star Wars drawing and act silly. The rest of his class drew nice Mother's Day pictures with flowers and hearts. He was so excited to be back with his friend after the week off for spring break that they never stopped talking and nudging each other. As I watched him get his own snacks and socialize happily I realized he is ready to be done with Preschool. With his late birthday and his wild man ways, he wasn't ready this time last year to move on to Kindergarten. I remember being in the car with him when the school district called to ask when I would be registering him for elementary school and him screaming over me, "I'm never going there!!!" Now he asks if there will be basketball at recess and if he gets to pack a lunch and stay all day next year. He's ready and my heart is ready to give him a little more space between us. I cried last year at his preschool graduation even though I knew he would be there one more year. Most likely I'll cry again, but this time I'm excited for this next step for him. Holy cow, I'll miss that little heathen, but this next adventure for him is so exciting as well!
