Meet Punky

Our youngest is now 15 months and her true colors are shining through. She was a grumpy baby, but I was able to nurse her to sleep easily. She slept a whole lot of the first year and I wasn't sure of what her temperament would be. As long as she was attached to me in the ergo she was pretty easy going. As people would walk by us, she would flash this ridiculously big smile. They would stop and say what a happy girl she was, but she had them fooled. If they came close enough to touch her she would  throw a fit. No one is allowed to touch her. She's happy flirting with everyone from a distance, but she needs a lot of space. She also needs to be on top of me. I don't know if it's a safety thing, or a possessive thing, but she pretty much wants to crawl back in the womb. I can get huge smiles from her, but if she is out of my arms and someone else wants a picture, they won't get it easily. If Shay wants a banana and I give her an apple instead, she will do the fish. The fish is when she throws herself around like a fish struggling out of water. It happens 300 times a day and usually for no good reason. When she's happy she is so stinking happy and when she's not, she's really not. I went to a library playgroup this week where a professor of child psychology came to watch and give advice. She pulled me aside at the end and said this world really isn't built for soft little girls and Shay (aka Punky) is fierce. Let her be fierce. I'm kind of obsessed with that now. She's tough yes, but isn't that what we want for our littles? Sometimes you need to step back and reevaluate the situation and your outlook. The girl knows what she wants and doesn't have all the words yet to get it. She's not taking sh*t from anyone in the meantime.
