Hurricane Sandy Baby

3 years ago I was pregnant with my second little. We found out early on that it was girl! I can't say that I took the news well... We had a perfect little two year-old boy who was wild and rambunctious and lit up my life. He had so much "boy" energy. Do you know what that is? I used to have to describe it to other moms so they could brace themselves and their children when he was around. He was the Tasmanian Devil and he liked to express his happiness with his hands. He would hug you and strangle you and take you to the ground. He wasn't malicious or trying to hurt anyone! He just demonstrated his excitement with his hands. He needed a brother. Someone to tackle, someone who understood him and who could give him a taste of his own medicine. But that wasn't in our future and I had no idea how a little girl would fit in.
    A month before her arrival I was contacted by a photographer, Karilyn Sanders, who was new to the area and looking for a maternity model. I had no pictures of me pregnant with my first and was excited to see how the pictures would come out. We took them at a fabulous house that was on Flying Point Beach in Southampton at sunset. She hand delivered them to me days later in a beautiful package. The Alaskin Assassin hit it off with her basketball playing husband and the rest is history. We formed a great friendship and her pictures and videos blow me away every time.

Days before my second little's arrival Hurricane Sandy hit. It was terrifying. Trees fell, the ocean came up, the electricity was gone and so was the gasoline. We lived in Hampton Bays at the time and one end of our street was blocked by a fallen tree and the other was blocked by the water. We spent our nights huddled together in blankets under candlelight. We could charge the computer in the car so our two year old could watch movies, but no one was comfortable and a baby was coming at any moment.

The storm passed and my princess came. She was the most adorable baby girl there ever was. Our souls connected instantly and I can't thank God enough for sending me the world's sweetest human being. She was exactly what we all needed.  She softened up my boys and made my heart smile. Cole searched for gas for us so we could leave the hospital, but had no luck until the 3rd day she was born. Can you believe the gas stations had nothing?! The grocery stores also had nothing! Luckily the Alaskin Assassin is always prepared for natural disasters (zombie attacks as well?) and we had food storage ready for us. My parents bought us a generator and life with our Hurricane Sandy baby began.

2 months later Karilyn reached out to me to make a glam mama commercial for mother's after baby. I hadn't lost all the weight, but the thought of capturing that special point in my life made me say yes.
