Montauk for the Win

Today was a 50 degree, crystal clear Saturday on the East End. We headed to the The End of the island to enjoy Montauk without the citidiots and parking fees.  We always start on the swings at the lighthouse and watch the fishing boats while hoping for whale sitings.

We then run the trails until we get to the big rocks that wrap around the lighthouse. Then we rock climb and sightsee.

The big rocks end with the rock beach where my littles can spend hours throwing rocks into the water and searching for beach treasures. Today we found some shells, a crab leg and a "shark jaw." I'm pretty sure it was a shark jaw seeing how this is where jaws was filmed.

My favorite update to Montauk has to be the playground across from the lighthouse. All the latest and greatest climbing toys have been installed with a sand box and digging tools to boot. There are also charcoal bbqs and picnic tables everywhere if you want to make a picnic out of it. I'll also note a brand new bathroom was put in for all of my pregnant or potty training mamas.

If that wasn't enough we surprised them with an ice skating trip to Gurney's. Wow, has that place been updated! I hadn't been since a prenatal massage and lunch, 5 plus years ago. I loved the new decor and the service seemed to have kicked it up a notch as well. Everyone was inviting, helpful and kind. There were heating lamps and bonfires all over the decks overlooking the ocean. They even had a spin class set up outside. A girls trip needs to be planned as soon as I get this baby weaned off my boobs...

The ice skates and helmets can be rented there and they start at size 9 toddler boys. They also have the skating "walkers" available for no charge. You could always bring your own skates instead! We had the whole rink to ourselves, which was perfect for my littles.

We skated for well over an hour and only stopped because Shay was in need of a nap. How am I already sore? If you haven't been, I highly recommend it!

We couldn't leave without a little hammocking. That is a real word. I heard a few people talking about it when we were in Laguna Beach in September.

Montauk you are beautiful. See you soon. Maybe November 28th at 4:30 for the Christmas lighting of the lighthouse.
